Terry R. Gaschen

Terry Gaschen graduated from Rice University in 1973. That same year he and Susan Lamborghini founded Guitar Gallery Inc. and the Houston Classical Guitar Society, two institutions devoted to the teaching and learning of classical guitar at a time when Houston had no cultural center for classical guitar studies.

Since 1971, Terry Gaschen has been a student of legendary guitarist Pepe Romero. He has also studied privately and in master classes with Celedonio Romero, Celin Romero, Andrés Segovia, Joaquín Rodrigo, Federico Moreno-Torroba, Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isbin, David Russell, Christopher Parkening, Michael Newman, Paul O’Dette, Oscar Ghiglia, Alirio Díaz, David Starobin, David Tannenbaum, Eliot Fisk, and Abel Carlevaro, among others. At Rice Univesity, he studied with Wolfgang Justen.

Shortly after graduating from Rice University, Terry began a seven year appointment as Professor of Guitar at Houston Baptist College and a short two year stint as Classical Guitar Teacher at HSPVA. In 1988 he became Professor of Guitar at University of St. Thomas and Guitar Instructor at Rice University, both positions which he holds today. Since 2000 he has also been Guitar Instructor at St. John’s School, teaching grades K – 12.

Terry has performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Theatre Under the Stars, and The Rice Orchestra. He has performed solo concerts, and with mandolinist David Peters to as the Houston Guitar & Mandolin Duo.
